Fasten your seatbelts for 60 minutes of pure fun! We're gearing up for the 8th Annual Karting for Kids! BIG 500 at Maine Indoor Karting in Scarborough. There will be races between 5:30 and 7:30 .pm., and teams of five drivers are needed from area businesses making a $500 contribution. If you can drive, you can race the fastest miniature cars in Maine.

Beginning at 6 p.m. BBBS will host its fifth one-of-a-kind multigenerational a cappella musical concert at USM’s Hannaford Hall (in the Abromson Center on the Portland Campus).

“Acappellooza 12” is an annual event, created by the late Terri Hatt, who was a Big Sister with the organization. The 2012 program will feature eight singing groups from Maine who have again volunteered to help the local nonprofit organization raise funds to support kids needing mentors in Southern Maine.

Starring a cappella singing groups from:

University of Southern Maine;

Colby, Bowdoin and Bates Colleges;

And featuring the quartet, “Rally”

Admission: $12 (in advance); $15 (at the door)

Groups of six (6) or more, purchased in advance: $10 each

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southern Maine "Run for Kids" (in the TD Bank Beach To Beacon 10K race) is our midsummer fundraising event.

Twenty-five runners/walkers will participate in the event in August to raise a minimum of $1,000 each on behalf of Big Brothers Big Sisters.

Your WRITE-IN Vote Matters More!

Bangor Savings Bank is pleased to announce that the 2012 Community Matters More voting begins January 23 and runs for six weeks, ending March 5.

Again this year, a total of 68 grants will be awarded to the organizations listed on the ballot and to the top 20 write-in recipients. The organizations in each of the eight regions (including write-ins) that get the most votes will receive $5,000 each. The remaining 60 organizations will each receive $1,000.

To vote for your favorite nonprofits (Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southern Maine), visit Community Matters More or stop by any of our 56 branches statewide. Please use your vote for us in Greater Portland/Lewiston/Auburn category. You get three (3) votes on your single ballot, so you have the opportunity to vote for 2 others in any of the regions.
