Becky is a 10 year old Caucasian girl who lives in Sanford with her mom, step-dad, and younger brother. They live in a quiet neighborhood with a lot of families and kids, and their home is busy and happy. She feels left out sometimes, because of her parents’ divorce and her mom having another child with her step-dad. The family also relocated during her parents’ divorce, and she has had a hard time with that transition.
Becky is in the 6th grade and struggles with learning disabilities that make school and academics difficult for her. She receives academic assistance through special education classes, and sees a counselor to help her deal with Anxiety. She gets along well with her teachers as well as her peers, but has had a difficult time making friends since the move.
Becky’s mom thinks that a Big Sister will help her gain the confidence to try new activities and to get to know someone outside of her family. She sometimes gets caught up on her insecurities, so having a Big Sister who focuses on her strengths will help to building self-confidence.
Becky enjoys singing, playing outside, riding her bike, going to the beach, playing video games, and listening to her iPod, and would love the opportunity to share these interests with a Big Sister. She wants a volunteer who is calm, patient, and understanding of her learning disabilities.
