What is BBBSSM?

When you hear Big Brothers Big Sisters where does your mind immediately go? It’s probably the Boys & Girls Club…you know that place where kids can hang out after school or on school vacation to have adult supervision.

The Boys & Girls Club is an amazing organization, but we do things a little different at Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southern Maine and let me tell you a little something about us.

Big Brothers Big Sisters is a national mentoring program where we place volunteer adults with children that are looking for a role model. We have been in Southern Maine for 27 years and have served over 3,000 kids in our community.

We accept Adults (Bigs) ages eighteen and up and Children (Littles) ages 7-17.

Our Intake Coordinator once said, “When I do an intake call with a parent who’s looking to get their child involved, one of the questions I am always asked is ‘How will you match my child with someone that has the same interests?’. Her response every time… “My program team is the best at making matches. They take the time to get to know the Big and Little and we pride ourselves in making matches that last. We require a year commitment, but for us we are making a match to last a lifetime not just one year.”

See the big difference our mentors make in real time.
